GENERAL

Q: What is Lassy Project?
Lassy Project is a free service that gives parents and guardians the ability to notify an entire local community about their missing child in seconds.

Q: How is Lassy Project different from AMBER Alert?
While the AMBER Alert system is essential and beneficial, Lassy Project differs in several key areas:

  1. Lassy Project gives instant access to the world’s largest search and rescue team – community members. The restrictions and paperwork that apply to filing for an AMBER Alert do not apply to Lassy Project so we are able to eliminate hours lost in paperwork when a child goes missing.
  2. Lassy Project is hyper-local, meaning alerts are only sent to relevant people in the immediate area who can quickly help. People who are not part of your hand-selected Lassy Village will not receive the alert.
  3. Lassy Project gives significantly more information in our alerts than the AMBER Alert system. AMBER Alerts provide a simple text description of a missing child, whereas we provide an image of the missing child along with a real time map showing the coordinates of their last known location and their vital information that may help community members identify them quickly.

Q: What does it cost to join a Lassy Project?
It will always be free to sign up, create child profiles, expand your Lassy Village, and escalate an alert if your child is missing. Stay tuned for additional features.

Q: Does my child have to have a smartphone for Lassy Project to work?
No.  A child does not have to have a smartphone in order for a parent to send out an alert about their missing child.

Q: Where can I access the Lassy Project?
iPhone – App Store
Android – Google Play
Web App @ www.thelassyproject.com

Q) When will the app be updated on Android?
We’re relentlessly focused on creating the best possible technology that helps protect our kids and provides a great user experience. The Android app is currently available at Google Play and allows you to grow your village and receive missing child alerts. Future updates that we are developing in cooperation with the Android platform subdivision of Elinext will be released soon, stay tuned for big announcements!

Q: Will I still receive missing child alerts if I do not have a smartphone?
Yes.  Whether you sign up for an account at www.thelassyproject.com or download the app to your phone and complete the registration process, you will receive text alerts for missing children in your area.

Q: Is Lassy Project only for children or can it be used for other people too?
Lassy Project is a free service that can be used to support every part of our communities.  We have registered users that work with adults with Alzheimer’s, users that care for seniors and persons with developmental disabilities, and women that use the app when they walk around their communities alone at night.

SECURITY

Q: Can anyone see my child’s profile or where they are located?
No, your child’s locations will always be private and will only be available to people you designate to receive a text alert should they go missing. Once you close the alert, the village can no longer see your child’s information.

Q: How secure is my private information on Lassy Project?
Our database is maintained in compliance with the US-EU Safe Harbor Framework and the US-Swiss Safe Harbor Framework as set forth by the U.S. Department of Commerce regarding the collection, use, and retention of personal information, security, data integrity, access, and enforcement. LASSY VILLAGE

Q: What is a Lassy Village?
A Lassy Village is a trusted group of friends, family members and neighbors that you hand select. A larger village ensures more people will receive the alert should your child go missing.

Q: How many Lassy Villages are there, can I join more than one?
Every person that registers for Lassy Project has their own unique Lassy Village.  There is no limit to the number of Lassy Villages you can belong to.  You can also join and leave villages as your life changes and grows.

Q: I’ve already joined a Lassy Village, do I need to download the app?
When you join a Lassy Village, you are asked to enter your home zip code. Therefore, the Village will notify you if a child goes missing in that particular zip code. The benefit of downloading the app is that it enables location services which will notify you if a child goes missing anywhere near your current location, regardless of home zip code.

CHILD PROFILES

Q: I want to create my child’s profile, do I have to upload a photo?
We recommend that every parent upload their child’s photo. In the event that your child goes missing this is one of the key identifiers for your community and could help find your lost child, faster.

Q: I want to create my child’s profile, what does “other information” refer to?
You can enter as much or as little information as you wish. We recommend anything that will help find your lost or missing child faster such as race, age, height, weight, hair and eye color, nicknames they may respond to, any other identifying characteristics such as wheelchair use, medical tag or identification devices, etc.

Q: How do I create a child profile?

To create a child profile simply follow the steps below:

  1. From your iOS phone: click on the Lassy Project app to open it and select the “Child” button at the bottom of the screen. Upload your child’s photo and add vital information that will help others search for your child if necessary.
  2. Creating a child profile from your Android and Lassy Project website: coming soon!

Q: Is there a limit to the number of profiles I can create?
You can create as many profiles as you need. If you care for multiple children throughout the day, we recommend creating one for each.

Q: Can my partner and I share an account?
Accounts cannot be shared among multiple guardians. We recommend that every child’s guardian download Lassy Project and create a child profile. That way, either guardian can send an alert the moment the child is deemed missing.

Q: Is it possible for child predators to join a Lassy Village or use Lassy Project?
You trust us to keep your kids safe and we take that very seriously. Typically, for better customer service, companies create a universal login so they can go in and look at your account if ever you need assistance. Lassy Project has no universal login, therefore we cannot even access your account. No one has the ability to access your child’s profile except for you.

Q: Will I receive every missing child alert through Lassy Project?
No. You will only receive alerts from parents whose Lassy Villages you have agreed to join. You may always opt-out of being in a village.

Q: What about a parent that “cries wolf?” Will I receive too many alerts from one person and be de-sensitized to a missing child situation in the future?
There is always an option for you to decide whether you receive alerts or not after you join a person’s village. If you move or change communities or don’t need alerts in a certain area for some reason, you simply can login to Lassy Project and change your notification settings for each village that you are a part of.

ESCALATION

Q: What happens if I push escalate?
If you think that your child is missing, you may send an alert out to your village immediately.  Through the escalation section choose the child, select their last known location and send the alert.  The alert will be sent via text message to your village.  They will receive your child’s photo, last known location and vital information.

Q: How do I cancel an alert?
When your child is safe at home, simply login to Lassy Project, select the alert on your dashboard and close.  This will notify your village that your child has been found.

Q: Will I still receive missing child alerts if I do not have a smartphone?
Yes.  Whether you sign up for an account at www.thelassyproject.com or download the app to your phone and complete the registration process, you will receive text alerts for missing children in your area.

Q: How are Lassy Project alerts different than AMBER Alerts?
Lassy Project is hyper-local, meaning alerts are only sent to relevant people in the immediate area who can quickly help. People who are not part of your hand-selected Lassy Village will not receive the alert.

In addition, Lassy Project gives significantly more information in our alerts than the AMBER Alert system. AMBER Alerts provide a simple text description of a missing child, whereas we provide an image of the missing child along with a real time map showing the coordinates of their last known location and their vital information that may help community members identify them quickly.

LAW ENFORCEMENT

Q: How is Law Enforcement involved?
Many police departments already have Lassy Project on their phones so they will receive alerts in their communities. We work with police departments across the nation and often times they will send updates and valuable information about any live missing children alerts Lassy users have sent to their communities so we can communicate even more information that may help the child be returned home safely.

Q: Do police officers receive the Lassy Project missing children alerts?
Many police departments already have Lassy Project on their phones so they will receive alerts in their communities. If law enforcement does not yet work with Lassy Project or have the app on their phones, they can reach out to us when there is a missing child situation and we share the live missing child alert with their department so they can begin sharing with their units.
